Warner Bros has announced a standalone game based on the Harry Potter sport Quidditch is currently in the works. PS5 and PS4 versions aren't confirmed just yet, but it is coming to PC and consoles. You can probably be safe assuming the title will release for PlayStation consoles, with a release date not confirmed yet. Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is its full name, developed by Unbroken Studios.
The team released a Battle Royale title called Fractured Lands and also lists itself as a co-developer of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Quidditch Champions will be a "fast-paced, competitive multiplayer game featuring the world’s most iconic magical sport," according to a newly published FAQ. Already in development for several years, you'll team up with friends online and compete in matches, with your player being fully customisable. Due to its online nature, Quidditch Champions will require a constant internet connection — no single player content is announced right now.
Traditionally, a game of Quidditch consists of two teams of seven players: a Seeker, a Keeper, two Beaters, and three Chasers. Presuming the game stays faithful to this setup, we're looking at 7v7 online bouts. Sign-ups for playtests are being taken on the game's official website.
Of course, Hogwarts Legacy recently released without any Quidditch content. While you could go to the Quidditch pitch and even fly a broomstick, you couldn't actually compete in matches. Quidditch Champions is perhaps the real reason why the sport didn't feature in the Hogwarts simulator. This isn't the first time a standalone Quidditch game has been produced either, with Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup providing a great, digital recreation of the sport on PS2.

I knew that's why they kept it out of Hogwarts legacy lol
It looks like a bad mobile game.
Gross. Put it in legacy.
@Pat_trick
Gameplay is King. It could be really good!
No thanks I wanted it in Hogwarts Legacy! that's the only way I'm willing to play it, I'm not buying a whole other game just for it.
Harry Potter and the Tree of Nothing.
Given all the details in that video, it could be a stupid card game or something.
I reserve judgement. Not excited or disappointed yet - but not exactly trusting, either.
Harry Potter and the Non-fungible Token
I can assure you this won't be as popular as Hogwarts Legacy
Looks like a F2P game
Does this have potential to be quite big?
Will wait for Hogwarts Legacy 2 instead
@kyleforrester87 Well these athletes are probably going to buy it. 😂

I don't necessarily believe this is the reason why it wasn't in Hogwarts Legacy considering this is from a completely different team.
Regarding the game itself though, I'm interested to see how they make it. I'm not sure how they will make being a keeper as interesting as pretty much any of the other positions but I'm interested to see at the very least.
The main problem is that it just fundamentally doesn’t work as a sport because Jowling Kowling is a terrible writer. So what, you play a competitive mode where one out of 7 players has the ability to end the game instantly and gain 150 points while what, the other players just bide their time and wait for the snitch to be caught? It’s just an excuse to make Harry the hero every time, instead of an actually good example of world building.
@nessisonett JK Rowling is a fantastic writer. Her world building is amazing with so much depth to it. Your take seems to be more about the “controversy” surrounding her than the actual books themselves. Her sales and awards debunk her being a “terrible writer”. Even if you don’t like her, she’s a great author.
Edit: Either he deleted it or banned me. Oh well. Guess somebody doesn’t handle an opposing opinion very well.
@Juanalf The flying in Hogwarts legacy is Fking terrible. They would've had to complete overall the way flying handles and works to even make Quidditch enjoyable in that game. On top of massive amount of other work need. The only way Quidditch would have made it into the game is if was completely on rails.
I'll reserve judgment till I see gameplay, but from that trailer it looks like Fortnite: Quidditch Edition. If that's the case it's a hard pass for me.
Not 100% sold on the character design, but might buy, if it I like what I have heard once I have heard more about it. I had that PS2 game, was not really happy about how that one controlled if I remember right, but hopefully this one turns out better
I give it six months. WB killed Multiversus beta after six months despite already collecting money, and many more F2P games lasted less than that. Harry Potter while popular, is not sufficient to save a niche game with the target demographic: Harry Potter fans who are gamers and are open to F2P multiplayer fictional sports experiences. Compare this to Kart Rider Drift, which really isn’t a bad game overall, but hasn’t captured a player base sufficient enough to justify the various league/competitive ranks resulting in a major revision of the reward tiers mid-season.
@nessisonett Isn't that basically how American football works?
No wonder it's absent from hogwart legacy lol.
This is a bit like when Ubisoft decided to take one element from Black Flag and base an entire online multiplayer game on it, and that looks set for astonishing successes the likes of which we've never seen (or may never see...) 👀
Stuff like this gets boring FAST when not contained within an actual established game and game world, right?
Even if it ends up being good, that art style is a hard pass.
Just make it a FIFA/PES clone. Literally.
Would be funny if that was the game to finally topple FIFA in the UK.
Yep, well now we know why they left it out of legacy. So wb and co could prey on the gullible via a live service model using the large Fandom surrounding the IP.
Even more bizarre and insulting is the art style though. Is it really a thing where the type of people that fall victim and open their wallets to these live service games only like toonish fortnite Style art design?
what is that and why?
@nessisonett
This is so correct. How are they going to make a game about the fictional sport where the points are invalid because of an instant win flying orb.
Well, that’s almost sure to be a free to play title… what a shame… was hoping to ACTUALLY PAY FOR IT if they added it to Hogwarts Legacy.
@KundaliniRising333 " Even more bizarre and insulting is the art style though. Is it really a thing where the type of people that fall victim and open their wallets to these live service games only like toonish fortnite Style art design?"
The toonish style is a big draw to kids, and they also tend to be lite on the system resources side which mean you are able to port the game to many systems as possible even mobile.
A Quidditch game with hogwarts legacy quality isn't going to run on PS4, Xbox One, or Switch. Nor is it going to run well on intel HD graphics, AMD APU, or even entry level GPU like Nvidia's '50 level cards.
@CWill97 i agree lol. And yeah wether people like her or not, you can't deny her creativity and ability to world build. She's an amazing writer. People will get over it eventually.... Maybe 🙄
@WaffleBoat There literally already a beloved game, Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup, that they can just copy.
"The world's most iconic magical sport"
I thought that was WWE.
@CWill97 Agreed her world building and storylines are absolutely fantastic. HP is close to my heart. Her ability to come up with a set of sensible and workable rules for a new sport however, are not.
I'm in.
Not needing to play a fantasy sport game or a school simulator were all a good thing about Hogwarts Legacy. I usually ignore both when shoehorned into a game
Story, combat and exploration is what I cared about.
I got what I wanted, so great that now the people who want to play a sports game in the HP universe will get their turn. But not for me.
In before another boycott attempt that fails miserably.
@CWill97 No they really don't like it at all lol
@StrawberryWave
Eh I don't know if I can believe that. We have no real proof that's the reason it wasn't in Hogwarts Legacy. Hogwarts Legacy is an incredibly massive game already with many systems at work already in it. They also wanted it to launch on as many consoles as possible and as evidenced by the still unreleased last gen versions, clearly that game is already pushing those systems to their limits and then some. Perhaps Quiddich was just asking a bit too much. Plus they clearly put an emphasis on combat in the game over flying.
I think Quiddich isn't in Hogwarts Legacy simply because there wasn't enough time to put it in. I could be wrong though.
@StrawberryWave
I could have seen a version of it in HL and this still being made. After all this is a multiplayer game from a different team and they plan to monetize this. If it was in HL it probably would have still been a single player affair and so wouldn't be as easy (or as tolerable) to monetize.
@nessisonett @WaffleBoat
I would imagine they will have to alter some of the rules a bit. CDPR had to do the same when they spun Gwent off into its own thing from Witcher 3. Otherwise the only positions that would matter for the most part would be the Seekers(obviously) and the Beaters who would try their best to knock dudes off their brooms.
...okay that actually sounds pretty damn fun if executed well!😄
@Korgon A different team, yes, but the Hogwarts Legacy team would have known the other team was working on a Quidditch game and decided not to step on their toes, so to speak.
@TheCollector316
I'm sure they knew this was in the works. However I don't see why that would have prevented them from doing their own version of Quiddich in HL. This is a multiplayer game of Quiddich. If it did appear in HL it would have been a single player version I would imagine.
Wow that shows absolutely nothing.
I have known about this since 2018!
(Guess only in concept at the time).
I asked someone at WB Games back in Feb 2018 if they'll ever develop a solo Quidditch game similar to "Quidditch World Cup" but with the modern day online components akin to something like Rocket League and they simply said "It's in the works"... And here we are!
Guess I can call myself an industry insider
Move over Jeff Grubb! xD
Gutted though Quidditch isn't in Hogwarts Legacy instead. When HL was revealed, honestly thought that was what said person was referring to, but clearly now, not the case.
Tis unfortunate as I really enjoyed HL and it's such a tease having a pitch and general broom flight.
This looks far too cartoon-ish for my tastes.
It’s Kena Bridge of Spirits (The Quidditch Edition).
I agree that Quidditch should have simply been added to Hogwarts Legacy.
The player would likely of been forced to either play as the Seeker or the Keeper.
I'm gonna go against the grain here and say I'm glad it wasn't in Legacy. I didn't really want another system shoehorned in to distract from the main experience. That being said, I'm also not really interested in this standalone game unless I hear amazing things.
@Loamy some people have way too short of a leash. It’s a shame, really. Different opinions actually can better yourself and make you learn new things. Oh well, I usually cringed at his comments anyways
